Almost Heaven Saunas sells barrel saunas that run into the thousands, in dozens of size, wood and heater combinations. Static photography can't show a buyer what they're actually buying. We designed, built and integrated a real-time 3D configurator directly into their Shopify storefront.

A barrel sauna is a high-consideration purchase: size, wood finish, heater type and add-ons all change the object, and they all change the price. No practical amount of product photography covers that matrix — so buyers were being asked to commit thousands of dollars to something they'd only partly seen. Hesitation was the default state.
The tool also had to feel like part of the store. Most 3D configurators arrive as a bolted-on third-party widget with its own look, its own interaction model and its own idea of what a product is — which breaks the storefront's UX and, worse, drifts out of sync with the catalogue. And every configuration a customer could reach had to map cleanly to a real, purchasable SKU and the right price.
A narrow, technical scope: the configurator itself, and making it native to the store it lives in.
An interactive model customers can rotate and inspect from any angle, updating live as they change the build.
The full option set wired into the configurator UI, so choosing is the same action as seeing the result.
Selections bound to real Shopify product and variant data — what a customer configures is exactly what they can add to cart.
Tuned across desktop and mobile so a 3D experience doesn't cost the store its load times or its bounce rate.
The configurator turned the hardest part of a high-ticket sale — imagining the thing — into something a customer does themselves, in the browser, in about a minute. They see the build, they see the price, and they add the exact configuration to cart. It's the mechanism behind the engagement and conversion gains the storefront work reports: time on page goes up because there's finally something to do.
It also became a differentiator. Competitors in the category are still selling saunas off flat product photos; Almost Heaven lets buyers build theirs.
Configurators live or die on the variant mapping — the 3D is the easy half. Tell us what your product matrix looks like and we'll tell you what it takes to make it buildable in the browser.
